Pancreatic Cancer Action Network - David’s Daredevils

In 2017, more than 53,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer takes 91% of its patients within 5 years and is anticipated to move from the third to the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. by 2020. There are still no effective treatments, and "wins" in this disease are measured in weeks, not years. In 2010, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network declared a bold and aggressive vision: after seeing too little progress in pancreatic cancer survival in over half a century, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network put a stake in the ground to double pancreatic cancer survival by 2020.

Silver Pennies participates in PurpleStride each spring as team David’s Daredevils in honor and memory of David Skelton, and this year our team expanded to include four families impacted by pancreatic cancer. PurpleStride is the signature event of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCan). Each year, in communities across the country, tens of thousands of people participate in more than fifty-six PurpleStride events, including PurpleStride New York City. These events are critical in raising awareness and funds that advance research and support patients and loved ones with a promise of a better tomorrow. Since 2013, David's Daredevils has raised over $94,000 for PanCan. Join us April 14, 2018, in New York City at Prospect Park. Details about the event can be found here.

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer - Angela's Angels

Breast cancer will take 40,000 lives in the U.S. in 2017. Personally, I have seen close friends and incredible mentors fight this terrible battle. This October, I'll walk for the tenth time in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in New York City with my friend and inspiration Angela! She will celebrate her tenth anniversary as a breast cancer survivor this year! "Angela's Angels" is a team of great friends, united by the same cause. We walk the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) on Saturday and a half marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday.

The money raised goes to the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade, a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to provide access to care and to work toward finding a cure. They provide funding to organizations all over the country in five areas: medical research, clinical care, support services, educational and advocacy seminars, and community-based, non-profit early detection breast health programs. So far, Angela's Angels has raised over $125,000, and Silver Pennies Consulting is proud to be a supporter of our Team!
